Summary
President Donald Trump has once again brought up his call for the U.S. to control Greenland, telling reporters at the NATO summit that kicked off today that the dispute over the territory is what hurt his relationship with NATO. Greenland is currently autonomous territory of Denmark and is self-governing but Trump has argued that the U.S. should control it because the island territory is surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships. These claims have previously been rejected by Nordic diplomats. Trump went on to suggest that he could pull American soldiers from bases in Europe. In June, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a review of deployments in Europe, but did not confirm if it would lead to reduction in troops.
