Summary

There are six elementary principles that form the foundation of our faith, called the Doctrine of Christ, upon which every believer is meant to build their life. In Episode 9 of "Born Again, What Now?", Duane Sheriff reveals why so many believers struggle to grow spiritually. Although they have genuinely been born again, many have never been grounded in the foundational truths that produce a strong, stable faith. Hebrews 5 and 6 show that spiritual maturity is not automatic. Believers either grow forward or drift backward, depending on whether they continue in God's Word and learn to discern good from evil. The first of these foundational doctrines is repentance from dead works. Dead works include both legalistic efforts to earn God's favor and sinful behaviors that contradict our new identity in Christ. True repentance is not about trying to earn God's forgiveness but about renewing our minds, turning from dead works, and living in agreement with who we already are in Christ. Establishing these foundational truths enables believers to grow from spiritual infancy to maturity and remain steadfast in their faith.
