Summary
In tonights return to form, we will be taking a deep dive into one of the darkest events in the history of Federal Law Enforcement, and taking a critical look at the events of August 21st- 31st 1992. Nestled deep in the rugged wilds of Northern Idaho, along the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains and sitting just below the peaks of Bottleneck/Roman Nose, what remains of a small family sits huddled together in their tiny handbuilt cabin in complete terror. The mother of the family lays only feet away in an adjacent room, slowly decomposing, as their 14yr old son lays dead in an outside shed. Meanwhile, just outside their doors, the full might of the Federal law enforcement apparatus has gathered a multi-agency siege team prepared to do whatever is necessary to apprehend their father, Randy Weaver, and close family friend, Kevin Harris. What started as an entrapment scheme quickly escalated into a violent standoff, triggered by the death of Deputy US Marshal William "Bill" Degan. You have no doubt seen news footage, or heard second hand tellings of the events of Ruby Ridge, typically spun to favor one party or the other. Tonight, you will hear the whole story, what the government never meant for you to hear, what really happened. Taken directly from the testimonies of those who were involved, from the records of all agencies that responded, as well as the DOJ and Senate subcommittees that investigated the events.
