Summary
Bullied, isolated, and desperate to escape his tormentors, Bradley runs into the woods—and finds a place that should not feel as though it has been waiting for him. Raised high among the autumn trees, the bat house is home to far more than the creatures named on its warning sign. Its shadowed interior seems to recognize Bradley’s pain. Its inhabitants whisper his name. And somewhere beyond the open hatch, something hidden from the daylight offers the frightened boy a sanctuary unlike any he has known. But refuge can become temptation, and the darkness that welcomes the unwanted rarely gives without expecting something in return.
