Summary
For as long as Joan can remember, her brother has wanted to make great films. What began with a childhood camera has hardened into an obsession—one fueled by arrogance, cruelty, and an insatiable appetite for increasingly disturbing material. Then he hears about Better Films. Spoken of in nervous whispers throughout the industry, Better Films is said to distribute its productions only on VHS. Those who have watched them refuse to describe what they saw. Its scarred representatives arrive without warning, and its history may reach further back than cinema itself. Joan wants nothing to do with the investigation, but years of manipulation have left her trapped beneath her brother’s control. As his search draws the attention of the people behind Better Films, she is forced across a boundary where suffering becomes performance, cameras are never as passive as they appear, and the difference between documenting horror and participating in it begins to disappear.
