Summary
After an eternity spent wandering the burning caverns of Hell, a nameless Southern soul is offered something almost unimaginable: a promotion. His new handler calls him Country and promises him water, shelter, and occasional passage back into the world of the living. All Country must do is enter the body of a girl believed to be possessed, follow the instructions transmitted through a strange insect-like device, and obey the rules governing Hell’s ancient contest with Heaven. Unfortunately, Country has received no training, understands almost nothing about his assignment, and has no intention of returning to the caverns. When his first mission places him inside a dark toolshed with three armed men closing in, desperation turns a carefully controlled operation into a nightmare of confusion, violence, and infernal consequences. Blending black comedy, supernatural terror, and uncompromising brutality, Drew Stepek's “A Little Bit Country” takes listeners into a vision of Hell where damnation has departments, suffering comes with paperwork, and every opportunity may be another form of punishment.
