In today’s festive edition, we celebrate St George’s Day – also marked as the Day of Valour and the Bulgarian Army. In our programme today: - We look at how the National Guard’s Band was established. - We also tell the story of a remarkable act of bravery that helped spark the chain of events leading to Bulgaria’s Liberation from Ottoman rule. The April Uprising, one of the most significant moments in Bulgarian history, is commemorated in early May. It broke out on April 20, 1876 (Old Style), corresponding to May 2 in the modern calendar.
