Summary
Back in late 2004, one of the most devastating disasters in modern history struck – a massive earthquake under the Indian Ocean triggered a tsunami that reshaped entire coastlines. 🌊 The earthquake, with a staggering magnitude of 9.1–9.3, was one of the strongest ever recorded, and the tsunami it unleashed caused destruction across 14 countries, from Indonesia to Somalia. Over 230,000 lives were lost, and millions of people were displaced, leaving the world in shock at the sheer scale of the disaster. Scientists say it happened because of tectonic plates shifting violently, and the scary part is, such events can happen again. But the tragedy also united the world, with countries rushing to provide aid and rebuild what was lost. While we can’t stop earthquakes or tsunamis, better warning systems and preparedness could save countless lives in the future. 🌏 Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
