Summary
August 1998. Luna is nineteen, housesitting for a family she barely knows on the outskirts of a town called Warden's Grove. The house is a Victorian with a third floor sealed off by a padlocked door. The family left her a list of rules: water the plants on Tuesday, take in the mail, and never, under any circumstances, open that door. She obeys for six nights. On the seventh, the scraping starts—slow, rhythmic, like something dragging itself down stairs that don't exist anymore. The story of what she found when she finally pressed her ear to the keyhole.
