Rather than racing from monster to monster, we'll let the voyage unfold like a long nighttime sail. We'll visit mysterious islands, distant coastlines, unfamiliar kingdoms, and quiet stretches of open sea while meeting the strange figures who repeatedly changed Odysseus's course. The Cyclops, Circe, Calypso, the Sirens, Poseidon, and plenty of questionable decision-making all have their place in explaining how what should have been a journey home became one of mythology's greatest detours. Along the way, we'll look beyond the adventure itself and explore what ancient Greek audiences may have heard in the story: ideas about hospitality, temptation, loyalty, cleverness, pride, fate, the gods, and the powerful human desire to return somewhere familiar after being away for far too long. The narration moves slowly beneath the sound of rolling waves, giving each part of the voyage room to settle before we sail onward. You can follow every island and encounter if you'd like, or simply let the names and stories drift past while the ocean ambience gradually pulls you closer to sleep.
