Ryan: Okay, first one—did you say “How to say?” when you forgot a word? Tina: Maybe. That’s wrong? Ryan: It comes across as broken. Native speakers say “How do you say…?” or “What’s the word for…?” Tina: Oh no. What else? Ryan: “Open the light.” We don’t open lights, we turn them on. And turn them off, not close them. Tina: I literally said that yesterday. Ryan: Number three—“I very like it.” Skip “very” before “like.” Just say “I really like it” or “I love it.” Tina: Number four? Ryan: “Of course.” Be careful with that one. In English, “of course” can sound a little sarcastic, like “duh, obviously.” Try swapping it for “Sure” or “Definitely.” Tina: Wait, really?
