Downpours could begin in the morning through early afternoon, with these early rounds of thunderstorms most likely to bring flooding to the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey and Connecticut. Later on in the afternoon and evening, more batches of storms could push through the region, though there could be a lull at some point. Storms could contain strong, damaging winds, hail and maybe even some isolated tornados, especially west of the city toward south Jersey, where breaks in the rain could make the air more unstable, upping the tornadic threat.
