He confirmed strangulation as the cause of death for each victim. He is expected to be sentenced to three consecutive life terms plus an additional hundred years. The plea eliminates the risk of acquittal but also eliminates the evidentiary presentation, cross-examination, and public testimony that the victims' families were preparing to hear. Motta examines the mechanics of the plea from both sides: what the defense gained by avoiding trial when every pre-trial motion had failed, and what the prosecution secured through the cooperation requirement with the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. He addresses the additional cases connected to the Gilgo Beach corridor — victims whose remains were found in the area but who were never charged to Heuermann — and whether the plea agreement and FBI cooperation may produce answers on those cases. The segment also considers the psychological dimension, with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott examining the dynamics inside the Heuermann family: an ex-wife who maintained she knew nothing and a daughter who publicly stated her belief in his guilt.
