That's because most of us only notice God when life hurts. When prayers go unanswered. When correction comes. When consequences arrive. When things feel hard. And yes, God does discipline His children. Hosea has already shown us that clearly. God has a heavy hand when wandering children refuse to listen. But God also has a gentle hand. Listen again: \"I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love.\" That is not the language of an angry tyrant dragging people behind Him. It is the language of a Father carefully leading children who need help walking. Some people only know harsh religion. Perform harder. Try harder. Carry more. Never fail. Never struggle. Never admit weakness. But God is not merely standing over His people demanding performance. Sometimes he bends down and carries what we cannot carry ourselves. \"I bent down to them and fed them.\" That image is deeply intimate and personal. It is the picture of a Father kneeling beside a struggling child. Helping him take another step. Feeding him when he is too weak to feed himself. Supporting him when strength runs low. And honestly, many controlling people struggle to receive that kind of kindness from God. Because control feels safer than surrender.
