After a very early wake-up, we started hiking in the dark to avoid the heat, stopping for water and breakfast before committing to the long climb out. What followed was roughly 4,000 feet of elevation gain, endless switchbacks, Redwall crossings, and some of the steepest trail of the entire route. The climb was shaded, rugged, and relentless—but also deeply satisfying. Along the way, we passed mining relics, encountered a tarantula, exchanged trail banter with other hikers, and slowly gained a full perspective of everything we had just traveled through. We topped out tired, proud, and already nostalgic.
