He begins with the first three Steps and the difference between intention and decision, then explains why Step Four is not about writing a life story or cataloging every bad act. In his reading, inventory is a series of lists, observations, and prayers covering resentment, fear, and sexual misconduct. Scott explains why he works down the page, limits each resentment cause to 19 words, uses three 30-minute sessions to defeat perfectionism, and treats writing as preparation for observation, responsibility, prayer, and forgiveness. Along the way, he connects fear to self-reliance, sponsorship to practical action, service to freedom from self, and spiritual growth to becoming God-centered rather than self-centered.
