Extending that logic, warfare becomes just if the cause is righteous - against a foe who is corrupt - and justifies the sometimes brutal nature of conflict. This notion of moral war extends back centuries, and is used - and abused - by many an opportunistic politician to take power selfishly at the expense of others, which sadly seems to be a pattern held to this very day. In the Christian world, the Crusades are often seen as the prime example of a holy war fought against invaders to retake Christian lands lost a millennia ago - and is thus venerated and scorned in equal measure by its proponents and critics alike. Tonight, we are joined by Trent from the Boniface Group to examine the virtues of the men who chose to fight this multi-century battle, where they may have misstepped, what motivated them to drop nearly everything to put it on the line for their people and faith - and why we today in our slowly decaying society may need once again to rise and answer the call of something greater. -- Brought to you by -- Very special guests Trent @bonifacegroup https://boniface.group/ with Adam Smith -- New: Hard Copies of Exit Strategy now Available! http://www.lulu.com/shop/adam-smith/exit-strategy/paperback/product-24191334.html - http://myth20c.com ~~-- Donations --~~ BTC: 16UQ6ukmTjz4Z7Ce4n23bN6tKGnU7XkPeQ - https://myth20c.wordpress.com/books/ - http://theamericansun.com - http://twitter.com/myth20c - myth20c@tutanota.com - http://gab.ai/myth20c -- References -- - Council of Clermont - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Clermont - Works of Martin Luther - https://archive.org/details/worksofmartinlut01luth/…","meta_description":"In civil society, we are taught that violence is only justified in special contexts, carried out with careful measure and in the defense of that which is…","key_points":[],"chapters":[],"topics":[],"duration_seconds":10308,"processing_state":"not_requested","actions":[{"name":"request_transcript","method":"POST","url":"https://stenobird.com/v1/public/podcasts/myth-of-the-20th-century-6782823/episodes/the-crusades-battle-for-the-holy-land/transcription-requests","description":"Idempotently request low-priority transcript generation for this episode."},{"name":"read_markdown","method":"GET","url":"https://stenobird.com/podcast/myth-of-the-20th-century-6782823/the-crusades-battle-for-the-holy-land.md","description":"Read the agent-friendly Markdown representation of this episode resource."}]}}
