Caleb has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley on February 16, 2026 and staged the Tipp City home to look like a burglary. His attorneys say Ashley was killed by an intruder and investigators rushed to blame Caleb. This exchange adds a complication the jury cannot simply skip past: the language in these private messages was coming from both people. Botner is a prosecution witness, and her own words are now part of the evidence jurors are hearing. The state can argue the exchange supports its theory. The defense can press context, credibility, and what two people saying something in a text actually proves about a later homicide.
