Authorities ruled Mica’s April 27, 2024 death a suicide. The North Carolina medical examiner’s report documented that she was found in the river about 100 feet from shell casings and reported no sign of a physical struggle at the scene. JP Miller has not been charged in connection with her death. The pending federal case focuses on a different question: what prosecutors say JP did to Mica before she died. The indictment alleges unwanted and harassing communications beginning in November 2022, tracking devices on her vehicle, interference with her finances and daily activities, more than fifty contacts in a single day, and damage to her tires. A second count alleges false statements to federal investigators; JP has entered a not-guilty plea. A federal grand jury returned the two-count indictment in December 2025. Miller pleaded not guilty the following month and was released on a $100,000 bond with location monitoring while the case moved through repeated delays.
