It accuses her of actively concealing what Rex Heuermann was doing inside their thirteen-hundred-square-foot home for twenty-seven years. Civil conspiracy. That is a different allegation than negligence, and it carries different consequences. The Suffolk County DA’s office cleared Asa during the criminal investigation. Her hair on the victims was called household transference. Her presence in the home was explained by proximity, not participation. But a civil courtroom operates on a lower burden of proof, and the same evidence the DA dismissed gets weighed on a different scale.
