Then he looks through an observation port and sees the manor outside the ship, drifting beside them at lightspeed as if it has become a second vessel pacing their course.      The ship’s crisis is not just that he is hallucinating. During a gravitational shear, he has to keep steering while the guidance interface becomes a family dinner table, each dead relative offering a different route correction, each one plausibly fatal if trusted blindly. The captain orders him disconnected, assuming separation will break the delusion, but the opposite happens: without his conscious control, the manor spreads faster through the ship, converting neutral corridors into rooms tied to childhood experiences he never confessed to anyone aboard. The vessel is no longer suffering a private psychological episode.
