To kiss the underside of the stone, visitors lie on their backs 85 feet above the ground and lean backwards through the parapet machicolations using iron handrails. Blarney Castle and its surrounding 60-acre estate, featuring historic poison and fern gardens alongside the 19th-century Scottish Baronial Blarney House, remain a private family residence managed by the Colthurst family. While long-standing folklore claimed the rock was a fragment of the Scottish Stone of Scone gifted by Robert the Bruce following the Battle of Bannockburn, geological analysis conducted by the University of Glasgow in 2014 disproved this origin.
