What This Conversation Helps You Discern A troubled conscience is not something to ignore when caregiving advice feels unsettled. There can be a real tension between wanting to comfort your loved one and wanting to remain truthful before God. The deeper question may not be, “What should I say?” but, “What does faithfulness require here?” A calm outcome does not always settle whether a response was faithful. Your loved one’s vulnerability increases the need to steward truth carefully. Truthfulness does not mean harsh correction, blunt facts, or forcing someone to accept what they cannot hold. Faithful care may require separating what is true, what your loved one believes, what they can hear, what love requires, what safety requires, and what faithfulness requires next. General dementia advice may no longer be enough for the responsibility actually being carried.
