During her trial, critical evidence about her history as a victim of abuse and trafficking was not fully presented, which significantly impacted the outcome. While in prison, Kruzan focused on education and personal growth, and her case eventually gained national attention as an example of how the justice system can fail victims of exploitation. After nearly 20 years behind bars, her sentence was commuted in 2013, leading to her release.
