Do you call timeout? Before the topic, the guys catch up. Coach Bill and Coach Collins have only met face to face three times in three years, most recently in Calistoga for what they are calling Coach Collins' launch party into full time entrepreneurial life rather than a retirement party. Nobody is going to find him in a rocking chair on the front stoop. Youth basketball is not high school or college. Depending on the tournament you might have one, two, or four timeouts for an entire game. In a typical four timeout tournament you get two per half, they do not carry over, and if you sit on the first two they are simply gone. Use them or lose them. Tournaments are built to keep games moving, especially with twenty minute running halves, which means every timeout you spend is a real decision. The golden rule both coaches keep circling back to is roughly six points. That is the point where most coaches feel the pull to stop and regroup.
