This week, they’re revisiting season 1, episode 12 (“There’s Only One Star”), where the ALDC girls head back to Los Angeles for a music video audition. For once, Abby is not the person choosing the lead, which makes the whole week feel like it could finally be a fair shot. The girls learn hip hop, go through the audition process, and get the chance to be part of a real music video — but behind the scenes, the story was apparently a lot messier than it looked on TV. Christi and Kelly look back on Chloe getting cast in the video, while Kelly reveals she thought Paige was being set up for that opportunity too. After weeks of watching Brooke and Paige get bad costumes, weaker choreography, and constant criticism, Kelly remembers being told this might finally be something positive for Paige — only for the episode to become another Maddie vs. Chloe storyline instead. They also revisit Melissa meeting with the music video producer, Christi taking Chloe to an acting coach, Mackenzie struggling with the choreography, the girls filming in full glam, and the moment Christi realized Dance Moms was becoming a real phenomenon when “Yay Chloe” started trending after the episode aired.
