She earned her PhD in 2024 in the Douglas Wallace lab at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, showing that mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation restricts SARS-CoV-2 replication and that natural mitochondrial DNA variation modulates viral pathogenesis, work recognized with the Richard K. Root Prize for Infectious Disease Research in 2025. She was president of the American Physician Scientists Association from 2022 to 2023, managing a budget of more than $300,000 and reaching over 5,000 dual-degree applicants across her five-year tenure. She was preparing for a career as an infectious disease physician-scientist when her father was diagnosed with genetic ALS in June 2023 and she learned she carried the same C9orf72 repeat expansion that was taking his life, the most common genetic cause of both ALS and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
