We begin with the Agartha tradition and the work of French occultist Alexandre Saint-Yves d’Alveydre, examining how his writings transformed the idea of a hidden subterranean civilization into something much more than a Hollow Earth legend. In Saint-Yves’ vision, Agartha represented an advanced spiritual civilization governed according to Synarchy—a hierarchical system combining spiritual, intellectual, political, and social authority. From there, we trace how Agartha and Synarchy entered the broader ecosystem of French occultism, Martinism, Theosophy, and perennialist thought, eventually reaching figures such as René Guénon. We examine the recurring concept of hidden masters, initiated elites, spiritual hierarchy, and the belief that civilization should ultimately be guided by those possessing a supposedly higher level of knowledge or consciousness.The discussion then moves into Neoplatonism and Traditionalism, exploring the philosophical idea of a hierarchical universe in which different levels of reality correspond to different levels of knowledge, authority, and spiritual development.
