Harsh Mander is an Indian author, columnist, researcher, teacher, speaker and social activist who resigned from the Indian Administrative Service in protest against the 2002 Gujarat anti-Muslim violence. Since then he has been one of India’s most steadfast voices against communal hatred and for the constitutional vision of Gandhi and Ambedkar for India. He’s worked with survivors of mass violence, hunger, homeless persons, street children and many others. We’ve interviewed Harsh Mander for World View in the past about Indian elections and about his book about the COVID-19 pandemic in India and we were honored to be able to talk to him again about Indian politics and the erosion of democracy that has always been the pride of India. Dr. Mander has recently made a series of podcasts on regional politics for Himal Southasian online magazine.
