Short answer: probably not. As long as you still need to use money, and most of us do until our last breath, the process of becoming your own banker is available to you. The concept itself is not age-dependent. What is age-dependent is the insurance tool used to implement it. If you want to be the life insured on the policy, there is a cap at around age 85. But here’s what most people don’t realize: the policy owner and the life insured don’t have to be the same person. You can own a policy on a child, grandchild, or any insurable family member and still implement the full process yourself. Nelson Nash himself became uninsurable after a quadruple bypass in 1987, yet he continued acquiring policies on other family members for decades. Just four or five months before he passed away at age 88, he took out a brand-new, $2,000-a-year policy on a great-grandchild. He knew he wasn’t long for the world, and he still did it.
