In 1998, the US Congress mandated NASA to detect and track 90% of the 1 km sized asteroids capable of effecting local mass destruction as well as global disruption of agriculture and other human activities. This goal has been accomplished. In 2005 Congress extended the mandate to require NASA to detect and track 90% of the 140-m asteroids capable of destroying a large metropolitan area. ## Actions - request_transcript: `POST https://stenobird.com/v1/public/podcasts/travelers-in-the-night-1048610/episodes/892-140m-asteroids/transcription-requests` — Idempotently request low-priority transcript generation for this episode. - read_markdown: `GET https://stenobird.com/podcast/travelers-in-the-night-1048610/892-140m-asteroids.md` — Read the agent-friendly Markdown representation of this episode resource.
