She was born around 1045 into the Anglo-Saxon royal family of England. After the Norman Conquest, her family fled north and eventually found refuge in Scotland. There, Margaret met King Malcolm III. Though very different in temperament and background, the two married and formed one of the most remarkable royal households in Christian history. Margaret brought to the Scottish court a deep love of prayer, learning, and Christian discipline. Though she became queen, she never allowed wealth or power to distract her from God.
