He wasn't a king, a military leader, or a prophet working miracles. Instead, he was a priest, a teacher, and a man whose love for God's Word helped rebuild the spiritual life of an entire nation. Ezra lived in the fifth century before Christ, after the Jewish people had returned from their exile in Babylon. The Temple in Jerusalem had been rebuilt, but something was still missing. The walls could be repaired with stone, but the hearts of the people needed rebuilding as well. Many had forgotten the Law of God or no longer understood it. That was where Ezra came in.
