President Trump touted an expanded "Ratepayer Protection Pledge," under which more than 200 stakeholders including seven major tech companies and 23 Republican governors have committed to shielding electricity customers from data-center-related cost increases, though critics call the pledge vague and unenforceable. Trump labeled opponents of data center development "radical-left communists," while local opposition has grown in cities including Nashville, Denver, Seattle, and Charlotte over rising utility bills, water use, and noise.
