Das Wacken-Festival hat seit vielen Jahren Kultstatus. 2009 gründeten die beiden Initiatoren zusätzlich die Wacken Foundation. Deren Zweck ist es, Nachwuchsmusiker aus der Metal-Szene zu unterstützen.
