He uses both quantitative and qualitative approaches to explore these phenomena, and engage in critical theory around measurement of pain, wellness, and other clinical outcomes to enrich the rehabilitation and life experiences of people living with pain. He was one of the pioneers in Canada in the area of Pain Science in Physiotherapy, and was one of the co-founding members of the Pain Science Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.
