## Resource

The U.S. National Team Development Program, once the gold standard for hockey player development, is in freefall as top prospects flock to new paths. After dominating with eight first-round NHL draft picks in 2019, the NTDP now faces a seismic shift: NCAA rules now let Canadian major junior players keep college eligibility, eroding the program’s unique edge. Compounded by three straight USHL playoff misses and six high-profile player departures this season, the NTDP’s relevance is under siege. While alumnus Kevin Porter’s coaching return offers hope, the era of the NTDP standing alone at the pinnacle may be over — and the next recruiting class could decide whether this is a stumble or a structural collapse.
