## Resource

NHL teams have paid steep prices for players who failed to deliver, leaving behind costly regrets. From Alexander Semin’s underwhelming tenure with Carolina to Darnell Nurse’s stalled Oilers deal, these contracts highlight the risks of overpaying for potential. The Wild’s massive Parise-Suter signings, Huberdeau’s flameout in Calgary, and Scott Gomez’s Rangers misstep all ended in buyouts. Even goalie Ilya Bryzgalov and forwards like Ville Leino and David Clarkson proved one-hit wonders. But none compare to Rick DiPietro’s 15-year, $67.5M disaster — a franchise-altering mistake that’ll haunt the Islanders through 2029.
