## Resource

Barry Melrose, the fiery voice of hockey on ESPN for 27 years and a former NHL player and coach who famously led Wayne Gretzky’s Kings to the Stanley Cup Final, has died at 70 after battling Parkinson’s. Known for his iconic mullet, sharp suits, and electrifying passion, Melrose wasn’t just an analyst—he was a cultural force who shaped how Americans experienced hockey. From his playing days with the Jets and Red Wings to coaching stints with Medicine Hat and LA, Melrose brought unmatched energy and insight to the game. Tributes poured in from Gretzky, Bettman, and colleagues—calling him “bigger than any team” and the undisputed face of U.S. hockey.
