## Resource

Christian Gonzalez just signed the NFL’s biggest cornerback contract ever—a $135 million deal with the Patriots—making him the highest-paid corner in league history. But behind the headlines? A complex negotiation where both sides compromised: Gonzalez got a massive $33M signing bonus and key future guarantees, while the Patriots avoided matching Seattle’s upfront structure to manage their cap. Witherspoon landed more guaranteed cash in the first two years, yet Gonzalez still edged ahead in overall value. The deal was finalized just before kickoff, after weeks of tension and uncertainty. Now, as the Patriots face the Seahawks, fans will watch Gonzalez and Witherspoon—the two men who just rewrote the cornerback market—go head-to-head on the field.
