## Resource

New Jersey lawmakers are rolling out the ‘Make Polluters Pay’ bill to combat rising flood disasters — big emitters of greenhouse gases would pay a “fair share” fee to fund climate-resilient infrastructure like upgraded sewers, better drainage, and urban tree planting. After brutal summer storms turned regular rain into gridlock in places like Jersey City, Assemblywoman Katie Brennan argues our outdated systems can’t handle today’s weather — and those who worsened the climate crisis should help pay for the fix. Supporters say this could generate up to $2.5 billion annually — $50 billion over time — making polluters foot the bill before taxpayers do.
