## Resource

The Yankees are eyeing Tigers ace Tarik Skubal in a potential playoff gamble, hoping to land him for a short stint without sacrificing top prospects like George Lombard Junior. With Skubal’s free agency looming and his agent Scott Boras likely steering clear of extensions, a trade could be the only path. While a bidding war may drive up the price, his limited window as a rental could keep costs manageable — and maybe even avoid giving up their prized prospects. But here’s the catch: Skubal’s brilliance might be a luxury, not a necessity. With gaping holes at catcher, bullpen, and offense — especially with injured hitters — adding him doesn’t fix everything. Sure, he’d make the rotation look unstoppable with Cole and Fried, but if he departs after the season and the Yankees can’t plug those other gaps, it could backfire.
