## Resource

Alberts Smits, the New York Rangers’ fifth overall pick in 2026, is skyrocketing through the ranks—landed in Tier Three “All-Star” status by The Athletic, signaling he’s poised to be a crucial, championship-caliber defenseman. At just 18, his European pro experience, international play for Latvia, and mature game for his age have scouts buzzing—he might even skate in the NHL sooner than expected. While fellow Rangers prospects Gabe Perreault (Tier Four) and Liam Greentree (Tier Five) also shine, Smits stands out as the highest-ranked and most promising talent, making the Rangers’ blue line look incredibly bright.
