Pete Alonso returned to Queens in a Mets uniform — now with the Orioles — sparking cheers from fans as he stepped up to bat, while chants of “Fire Stearns” echoed through Citi Field. The Orioles won 2-1, officially eliminating the Mets from playoff contention, despite a recent six-game winning streak. With a dismal 69-81 record and last place in their division, frustration boils over at the front office — especially after spending big on stars like Alonso, who left after the 2025 season. Stearns’ legacy remains tied to player departures, and fans aren’t holding back. The Mets face Baltimore again Tuesday.
