## Resource

Pete Alonso hit his 300th career home run in a Mets game — tying the score in the ninth — only for fans to cheer wildly, even as their own team lost in extra innings. Owner Steve Cohen joined in, clapping for the milestone, calling it a moment worthy of celebration for a player who’s been a Mets legend. While teammates like Sean Manaea called the reaction “crazy,” fans clearly still adore Alonso — especially since he hit 264 homers for them. With the Mets out of playoff contention, the moment felt less about winning and more about honoring a career. But with the season winding down, the real challenge lies ahead: can the organization rebuild to give fans something truly worth cheering for next year?
