## Resource

New York City is locking down the West Indian Day Parade with unprecedented security this year, aiming to end the event 30 minutes early to prevent the late-day violence that erupted last year. Thousands of NYPD officers, community violence prevention teams, and new drone tactics will patrol the Brooklyn route, while J’Ouvert gets its own controlled entry zones. Despite skipping formal screenings at the main parade, police presence will be heavy—and zero tolerance for trouble is the message. Mobile trauma units and outreach teams are also on standby to de-escalate tensions before they boil over. Behind the scenes, officials, police, and organizers worked to strike a balance between safety and preserving the cultural celebration—ultimately agreeing on a plan that keeps the parade on schedule and out of chaos.
