## Resource

The Louisiana Supreme Court has approved a law slashing three criminal judgeships in New Orleans, forcing nine judges to handle 50 extra cases each — leading to longer days, potential night shifts for DA staff, and unexpected political battles as two ousted judges run for re-election against colleagues. While lawmakers tout cost savings and electoral clarity, frontline justice workers warn delays are inevitable, turning a routine budget move into a high-stakes showdown for the city’s legal system.
