## Resource

New Orleans City Council just approved a new fee for Carnival krewes, set to begin in 2027, requiring parades to pay between $5,000 and $10,000 annually to help cover the city’s $3.7 million shortfall from servicing Mardi Gras. Officially called the GAP Fee, it aims to offset the $10 million the city spends annually on police, sanitation, and other services during the 12-day festival. Proposed by Councilmember Freddie King III at the mayor’s request, the fee is still awaiting Mayor Helena Moreno’s final approval — but if passed, it marks a major financial shift for the beloved traditions that draw millions each year.
