## Resource

Jerome Smith, the fearless Freedom Rider known as “Big Duck,” was laid to rest in New Orleans — a hero whose courage on buses and in terminals during the civil rights era still echoes today. Carrying scars from beatings and battling cancer until his death, he spent decades uplifting New Orleans youth through his nonprofit Tambourine and Fan, Inc., teaching them history and providing safe spaces to grow. His legacy? The children he mentored now carry his story forward — proving that true heroes aren’t inked on comic books, but etched in the lives they transform.
