## Resource

Johnny Rotten, punk icon and Sex Pistols frontman, secretly dreamed of joining Krautrock legends Can—sending messages to keyboardist Irmin Schmidt begging for the chance. Though Schmidt thought it was a brilliant idea, both bands disbanded in 1978, making the dream impossible. Still, Lydon’s next project, Public Image Ltd, channeled that same experimental spirit. Schmidt, now releasing his new solo album Requiem, reflects on the misunderstood “Krautrock” movement—and what might have been if Rotten had sung with Can.
